Course Overview

Parents and caregivers make up a significant proportion of the engineering workforce, yet many professionals face challenges balancing demanding technical roles with caring responsibilities. Without supportive workplace practices, organisations risk losing experienced talent and limiting career progression for employees who are parents or caregivers. This course explores how engineering organisations can better support employees with caring responsibilities while maintaining high-performing teams. Participants will examine the barriers parents and caregivers often encounter in technical workplaces, including rigid working practices, career progression challenges, and cultural expectations around availability. The course provides practical guidance for managers and organisations to create supportive working environments, improve retention, and enable parents and caregivers to thrive and progress in their engineering careers.
