Introduction to CAD

Code: EE-EF-06

Half-day – 3hrs (1 x break)

On-site

Course Overview

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is a widely used tool in modern engineering, enabling engineers to create precise digital models and technical drawings of components and systems. CAD software allows engineers to visualise designs, test ideas, and communicate technical concepts effectively. This course introduces the principles and applications of CAD within engineering design. Participants will explore how CAD tools are used to create and modify digital models and how these models support the design, manufacturing, and development processes.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the role of Computer-Aided Design in modern engineering practice.
  • Explain how CAD software supports the creation of engineering drawings and models.
  • Identify key features and functions commonly used within CAD systems.
  • Analyse how digital models support engineering design, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Apply basic CAD concepts to interpret or create simple engineering models.
