EqualEngineers uncovered some stark results from their inaugural Masculinity in Engineering Survey 2019 in relation to mental ill-health and the lack of inclusivity in engineering culture. To support engagement of the male-majority workforce, ECITB provided funding for EqualEngineers to train 1,000 engineers in the UK nuclear sector through 2020. Training was delivered to over 10 organisations, each of varying sizes, and EqualEngineers provided regular feedback in terms of their reporting on progress to targets set. Overall, a positive outcome was achieved whereby this intervention helped ECITB make inroads to improving the culture across their in-scope organisations in one of engineering construction’s key sectors.

I connected with EqualEngineers to explore how we can improve the ownership of improved diversity, equity and inclusion in the School beyond the EDI Committee. They were very flexible in meeting our timescales, and worked with us to build confidence amongst committee members. From this we have identified a number of additional opportunities, for example broadening EDI engagement to different staff groups such as our technical team.

Fayon delivered a workshop for our summer intern induction event. The workshop content was well-structured, relevant, and tailored to the needs of our audience. The interactive elements she incorporated, such as group discussions and hands-on activities, made the workshop dynamic and engaging. Participants felt actively involved in the learning process, which contributed to their overall enjoyment and understanding.
